Land clearing in Lutz.

Working in Lutz

Lutz is the rural edge of north Hillsborough, on the line with Pasco County, and the property shows it: lots measured in acres rather than feet, wooded ground behind the road frontage, horse and hobby-farm parcels, and houses set well back from the street. Clearing here is larger-scale than a house-lot job and usually selective, because the trees are what makes the property worth having and the point is to take the growth out from under them and open the ground up. The land is flat to gently rolling and heavily wooded: pine and oak over palmetto, cypress and bay in the lower and wetter pockets, and thick understory everywhere the ground has not been worked. That understory is the work — it is what makes a parcel unusable, hides fence lines, blocks the drive and takes over a paddock. Clearing it out and leaving the canopy standing is the usual brief, and it changes the property more than taking trees down does. Equestrian and hobby-farm parcels add the usual structure: fence lines grown shut, lanes and gate positions lost, paddocks gone to brush, and often a pad needed for a barn or an outbuilding. On these parcels mulching in place is usually better than hauling, because the material goes back into the ground as a surface that can be ridden, mown and driven on. Drainage is the local caution. Ground here holds water in the low pockets and along the natural runs, and clearing it is planned so those lines still work afterwards. Where a parcel carries frontage on a pond or a creek, clearing growth back from the water is work we do — work inside a regulated protection area, and the environmental permitting around one, is not. Access is straightforward on most of these parcels, but long drives and soft ground in wet months are the two things we plan around.

We clear wooded acreage, open up understory, reopen fence lines and paddocks, and grade pads and driveways on equestrian and hobby-farm property.

Land clearing and site preparation

Typical work in Lutz

Wooded Acreage With Heavy Understory

Palmetto and bay under a pine and oak canopy. Understory and fallen material out, canopy left standing and the ground underneath opened up so the parcel can be walked, driven and mown.

Equestrian Property And Paddocks

Paddocks gone to brush, fence lines shut and the lane to the back lost. Lines reopened, paddocks cleared and a pad graded for the barn, with the mulch left as a riding surface.

Long Driveway And Building Envelope

A driveway corridor and building envelope opened out of the timber, cut back to grade so vehicles can use the drive in wet months as well as dry.

Low Ground And Drainage Runs

Ground holding water in the low pockets. Growth cleared around the natural runs rather than through them, so the parcel still drains after the work is done.

Questions about your project

How much does land clearing cost in Lutz?

It depends on how much ground is being cleared, how thick the understory is, whether trees are being kept or removed, how much material leaves the site, and whether grading, lanes or a pad are part of the job. Tell us about your property and we'll come back with a real number — no obligation.

Do I need a permit to clear land in Lutz?

For most land clearing, brush hogging and mulching, no permit is typically required. It can differ where a parcel sits under a development order or a drainage easement, and demolition is a separate case: that work is carried out by our demolition subcontractors, and permits are procured when needed. We're insured.

Can you clear understory and leave my trees standing?

Yes, and on wooded acreage that is usually the job. The understory and the dead and fallen material come out, the canopy stays, and the ground underneath is left usable — which opens up a parcel without changing what it looks like from the road.

Can you clear paddocks and fence lines on horse property?

Yes. Fence lines reopened, lanes and gate positions cut, paddocks taken back from brush, and a pad graded where a barn or outbuilding is going. Mulching in place leaves a surface that can be ridden and mown.

Will clearing affect drainage on my property?

It is planned so it does not. The low pockets and natural runs are left working, and where a parcel carries surface water or a drainage easement we clear around it rather than through it.

Do you handle storm debris and downed trees?

Yes, with a 24/7 line for storm work. Office hours are Monday to Saturday, 9 to 5; the storm line is separate and staffed around the clock when a storm has come through.
